Tips for preventing water leaks in the home

A water leak is the last thing any of us wants in our homes. From maintenance costs to the issue of damage, water leaks are an inconvenience that no one should have to put up with. Fortunately, there are things you can do to try and prevent water leaks happening. From installing a pressurisation unit to help you regulate water pressure to getting a water detection device, here’s some of our top tips for preventing water leaks in the home.

Check your water bill

One of the easiest ways to work out whether there’s a leak somewhere in the home is by monitoring your water bill. If you notice anything unusual with your last bill, like a noticeable difference in water usage that you can’t quite put your finger on, then you may have a leak you need to investigate.

Install a water detection device

Water detection devices work by notifying the user when it’s sensor notices moisture. This makes a water detection device perfect to place near appliances like dishwashers, toilets and washing machines so that you’re made aware of a possible leak early on before things can get too out of control.

Fix water pressure

Water pressure plays a big role in the smooth running of your home. If your water pressure is too high, pipes can end up more likely to burst. This can be prevented by installing a water pressurisation unit which works to regulate water pressure and keep your home’s water system nice and healthy. We have a great range of pressurisation units here at Complete Pump Supplies, with designs and functions to suit all needs. To help you decide which one is for you, read our blog post on how to choose the right pressurisation unit for you.

Locate your water mains

It’s important to have an idea of where your water mains is located, so that you can easily turn it off if you know you won’t be using water for a long period of time - no one wants to come home from their holiday to leaking pipes! Water mains or ‘stop valves’ are most commonly found under the kitchen sink, but can also be found under floorboards or in an airing cupboard. Locate your current home’s water mains, and if you’re moving house, make sure to scope out your new home so you’re prepared for every water-related mishap.
