Common water related issues in the home and their causes

The last thing anyone wants is a water/boiler related issue in the home, especially when it’s a potentially costly one. The bad news is, these issues are common and can arise at any time, therefore it’s best to know their causes, and how you can get them fixed as soon as possible. Cloudy water

Ever poured yourself a glass of water and noticed it looking a little more cloudy than usual? Cloudy water is something most of us will encounter from our taps, and while a nuisance, it’s not quite as scary as you might think. If your water looks cloudy but settles and appears clear not long after it’s been poured, this is usually down to trapped air. The solution to this is simply to run the tap for a few minutes and the water should run clear. If your water is cloudy with a brown or orange discolouration, however, this can indicate an iron build up in the water mains, which should be checked out by a licensed plumber.

Losing pressure

Losing water pressure is one of the most irritating things that can happen in the home, often disrupting what would otherwise be a nice hot morning shower. There are a number of reasons why you might be losing your water pressure. One of the most common reasons for failing water pressure is a plumbing system that needs to be replaced due to corroded pipes that cause build up that closes off water flow. Another reason this might be happening is due to a pressure regulator that’s failing, which can result in either an up spike or a reduction in water pressure. Boiler switching itself off

If your boiler keeps switching itself off without being prompted, this can be down to a number of reasons. While already a problem in itself, low water pressure can even be the culprit of your boiler turning itself off due to a faulty pressure relief valve. Alternatively, if your thermostat has broken, your boiler may be shutting itself off in order to prevent overheating or because it assumes the desired temperature has already been reached due to being unable to detect the temperature of the water. Leaky taps

Leaky taps are both annoying and bad for the environment, causing a large amount of water waste that could otherwise be avoided.
